Some Lecturers Are on The Same Pay Since 2003- AAUA ASUU Chairman

Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba branch on Tuesday, staged a peaceful demonstration against the insensitivity of the Federal Government towards their demand since 2009.

The protest which took place within the University environment saw them carry different placard such as “our take home can not take us home, on 2009 agreement we stand and so on”

Addressing the protesters, the chairman of the Union, Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi narrated how the members has been on the same pay since 2003 while the agreement was to be reviewing the salary every three years.

He lamented the state of many universities in the country. According to him, no laboratory equipment in all public Universities, the lecturers and the students need to improvise most of the time and this is affecting the output.

Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi reveals that buildings in many Universities are in sorry state, students need to be receiving lecturers lapping each other which is not conducive for both the lecturers and the students.

“To avert the impending action by the union, according to Dr. Boluwaji Oshodi, there is the need for the government to sign the 2009 agreement which was willingly entered into by government as this captured what is needed to turn round the University system in Nigeria.”

“Earlier in the day, the union met with leadership of the student body to sensitize them on the plan of the union to take action to actualize their demand from the government.

He told them at the meeting that intending action of the union was not targeting on them but to improve their learning condition.
