The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba (Dr) Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja (Arusa I), has endorsed the establishment of a sports school in Ibadan as part of efforts to promote youth and sports development.
The monarch gave the endorsement on Monday while receiving members of the Ex-Ibadan Professional Footballers Association (EIPFA) during a courtesy visit to his palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan.
This was contained in a press release issued and signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Chief Ayoade Solomon Olugbemiga.
During the visit, the Chairman of EIPFA, Mr. Temitope Obideyi, presented an award of recognition to the Olubadan in appreciation of his exemplary and unwavering support for youth and sports development in Ibadan.
Responding, Oba Ladoja expressed gratitude for the honour, noting that he was deeply encouraged by the recognition.
“I am overwhelmed by this award of recognition, particularly for my efforts towards youth and sports development,” the monarch said.
He also assured the association of his support, pledging to attend the novelty match between Ex-Ibadan Professionals and Ex-Super Eagles players scheduled for May 31, 2026, at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
Earlier, Obideyi commended the Olubadan for the warm reception accorded the delegation and disclosed that the proposed sports school had received approval from the Oyo State Ministry of Education.
He explained that the initiative is aimed at discovering, nurturing, and empowering talented youths in sports.
Obideyi further stated that the one-day sports fiesta slated for May 31 would promote sports development, foster unity among sports veterans, and provide a platform to deliberate on the welfare of sportsmen and women, as well as the future of sporting activities in Ibadan and Nigeria at large.
The event was attended by notable personalities, including a former President-General of the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Bayo Oyero.
