According to pulse news The dispute centers on a 22-acre property that Fashanu had reportedly agreed to sell to investors for over £500,000. Tensions escalated when workmen, allegedly under police protection, began constructing a perimeter fence on the land.

Fashanu, 62, along with his lawyer, Chinyere Chigbu, went to investigate but was arrested at a police station. He now faces charges of criminal conspiracy, intimidation, trespassing, and obtaining by false pretenses—allegations he strongly denies.

His wife, Vivian, was also detained, which Fashanu insists was an unjust violation of their rights. According to him, he was held for three hours on December 16 and remained under police restrictions until December 19. He also claims officers seized his mobile phone.

Legal Battle for Compensation

In response, Fashanu has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja against 12 top police officials, including the Inspector General of Police. He is demanding ₦201 million in damages for what he describes as a wrongful arrest and violation of his rights.

His lawyer confirmed that Fashanu, his wife, and himself were eventually granted bail. However, Fashanu insists that the incident severely damaged his image, costing him a chance to coach the Nigerian national team.

The case has been adjourned to April 10, allowing the police and other respondents time to file their defense.
