The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has dismissed claims that he is planning to unseat the Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, describing the allegation as false and misleading.
In a press statement dated April 14, 2026, and signed by his Media Aide, Adeola Oloko, the monarch cautioned against dragging the Olubadan throne into what he termed “dirty politics.”
Oba Ladoja said it was illogical to suggest that a traditional ruler could have the constitutional authority to remove a sitting governor, stressing that even a local government chairman cannot be impeached by a monarch.
“You don’t have to be a former governor or distinguished senator to know that a monarch has no power to impeach a local government chairman, not to talk of a state governor. To say the least, this is a lie,” the statement quoted him as saying.
The monarch expressed concern over what he described as conflicting and baseless narratives in the political space, noting that the allegation surfaced barely 24 hours after a former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, reportedly accused the Oyo State governor of plotting against the Olubadan stool.
“Less than 24 hours ago, it was alleged that the governor was planning to remove the Olubadan. Today, it is the Olubadan who allegedly wants to impeach the governor. So, who is fooling who?” he queried.
Oba Ladoja reiterated his commitment to the traditional institution and urged political actors to refrain from involving the revered throne in partisan controversies.
