Organisers of the annual Accra Weizo travel event, Akwaaba African Travel Market, have announced a change in date for the 2026 edition, moving it from June 26 to July 24.
The decision followed a series of strategic meetings in Accra involving key tourism stakeholders, including the Ghana Tourism Authority, the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), and the Ghana Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC). The consultations were led by Ahmed Naamann.
According to the chief promoter Nkechi Uko , the shift became necessary due to Ghana’s participation in the FIFA World Cup, which is expected to engage a significant number of tourism and hospitality stakeholders during the initial date.
In a related development, organisers also confirmed an adjustment to the much-anticipated Joint Ghana/Nigeria Tour Operators Road Trip. The journey, which previously commenced from Lagos, will now begin in Cotonou, Benin Republic, where Nigerian participants will join their Ghanaian counterparts before proceeding on the cross-border tour.
The itinerary will span two days in Benin, one day in Togo, and three nights in Ghana, highlighting regional tourism integration and seamless travel across West Africa.
Organisers noted that the 9th edition of Accra Weizo will feature an enhanced experience, with a special focus on Accra’s vibrant nightlife as part of efforts to promote the city’s tourism appeal.
