Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest for the office of the President ahead of the 2027 general election.
Makinde made the declaration on Thursday during a Unity Rally jointly organised by the People’s Democratic Party and the All People’s Movement to formalise the alliance between both parties.
Speaking at the rally, the governor called on opposition leaders across the country to unite against what he described as a deliberate attempt by the ruling All Progressives Congress to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
According to him, democracy cannot thrive in an atmosphere where opposition parties are denied a level playing ground through alleged interference by the ruling party.
Makinde also urged Nigerians to move beyond being mere political spectators and actively participate in the democratic process, expressing confidence that massive voter participation in 2027 would usher in what he described as a historic reset for the country
