As Oyo State’s vibrant Vibing December gathers momentum, the cultural spotlight turns decisively to Ogbomoso, where heritage, hospitality and harmony converge in a grand celebration of identity and renewal. Coordinated by the Oyo State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Dr. Wasiu Olatubosun, Vibing December is a well-curated calendar of culture and tourism activities designed to enliven the festive season across the state. Among its flagship events, the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival stands out as one of the biggest and most anticipated highlights.

From December 18 to 22, 2025, the ancient city will host the second edition of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, a cultural fiesta conceived to promote unity, enhance socio-economic development, and showcase the rich cuisine, customs and traditions of Ogbomoso. Having made a strong and impressive debut last year, the carnival has rapidly evolved into a cultural beacon, attracting indigenes, visitors, creatives, investors and culture enthusiasts from far and near.

Beyond its colourful parades and electrifying performances, the Cradles Carnival is a platform for storytelling and empowerment. Through cultural displays, culinary exhibitions, music, dance and community engagements, the festival tells the Ogbomoso story—its resilience, artistry and communal values—while creating economic opportunities for traders, artisans, hoteliers and young entrepreneurs. In this way, it aligns seamlessly with the broader objectives of Vibing December: deepening cultural tourism, stimulating local economies and positioning Oyo State as a preferred festive destination.

The success of this year’s edition is being driven by a high-powered planning committee led by Hon. Segun Dokun Odebunmi, the Okanlomo of Ogbomosoland, which has assured residents and visitors of a well-organised and memorable event. The committee has put comprehensive measures in place to ensure the carnival runs smoothly, including the provision of adequate security within Ogbomoso and its environs, guaranteeing a safe and peaceful atmosphere throughout the celebration. Arrangements have also been concluded to ensure quality hospitality services, with hotels, guest houses and recreational facilities ready to welcome guests and tourists.

Crucially, the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is firmly rooted in a long-term developmental vision. It forms part of the 25-Year Development Agenda of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Soun Orumogege III, whose reign is anchored on cultural renaissance, inclusive growth and sustainable development for Ogbomosoland. By elevating culture as a strategic tool for development, the Soun’s agenda positions heritage not as a relic of the past, but as a powerful driver of progress.

As Vibing December runs from December 18 to 25, Ogbomoso’s moment on the cultural calendar promises colour, connection and continuity—where tradition meets modern celebration, and a proud people reaffirm their identity while opening their doors to the world. For Ogbomoso, the Cradles Carnival is fast becoming a defining December tradition; for Oyo State, it is a compelling testament to how culture, when thoughtfully harnessed, can shape economies, inspire unity and secure the future.
