The family of late lawmaker, Temitope Olatoye, popularly known as “Sugar,” has cautioned politicians against dragging his name into ongoing political disputes, insisting that the courts have already settled issues surrounding his death.
Speaking to journalists, Mogaji Hon. Olajide Olatoye, also known as “Big Daddy Sugar,” condemned what he described as the “politics of calumny” being played with the memory of his late brother.
He expressed concern over renewed reports, including those by Impart News Network, which allegedly attempt to link Olafisoye Akinmoyede to the killing of the former lawmaker.
Olatoye, however, firmly stated that Akinmoyede had been cleared of all allegations by a competent court of law. He cited a judgment delivered on January 23, 2020, by Justice Mufutau Adegbola of the High Court of Justice in suit number I/70c/2019, where Akinmoyede and others were discharged and acquitted.
“Let it be clear that Honorable Olafisoye Akinmoyede has been vindicated after being wrongfully accused of the killing of my late brother,” he said.
He described continued attempts to associate the acquitted individuals with the incident as “derogatory, evil, and uncalled for,” warning that such actions could amount to contempt of court.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Olatoye urged political actors to handle their grievances personally without invoking the name of the deceased.
“We are not happy hearing the name of our late brother in the news for political reasons. The family is still mourning this irreplaceable loss,” he added.
He further warned that the family would not hesitate to initiate legal action against individuals or groups found exploiting the situation, stressing that litigation would be pursued where necessary.
The family reiterated its call for respect for the memory of the late lawmaker and urged all parties to desist from actions capable of distorting established facts or reopening settled legal matters.
