The Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been commended for supporting a major grassroots boxing competition scheduled to hold on April 26 at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium Surulere.
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Ariya Networks, Dr Idris Olagoke Badmus, gave the commendation while also praising the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, for his role in supporting the event.
The grassroots boxing competition, tagged “Battle of Unbeaten,” will be headlined by Taiwo Agbaje, popularly known as Esepo, and Osaigbovo Tosin, also known as Sojarboy, alongside other fighters.
Ariya Networks is set to broadcast the bouts live on its platform, with interested fans able to subscribe for N1,500 to watch the fights and access movies on the platform.
Badmus expressed satisfaction with the level of support from the Lagos State Government, noting that it aligns with the company’s vision of promoting African sports.
“Our first experience with Lagos was the E1 Sports event which we covered, and we received positive feedback from Africans, especially those in the diaspora. That is why we are delighted to be part of ‘Battle of Unbeaten,’” he said.
Both headline fighters are undefeated in their professional careers. Osaigbovo, also known as “Soldierboy,” boasts 12 wins from 12 fights, while Agbaje, a former World Boxing Federation Intercontinental Featherweight champion, has recorded 13 knockouts in 18 bouts.
The fight is promoted by Ariya Networks in conjunction with De Lad’s Boxing Promotion and is expected to offer both fighters a shot at a lightweight title, stepping up from their featherweight division.
