The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Friday announced Engineer Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan as the running mate to the gubernatorial candidate of the party, Engineer Seyi Makinde, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
State Chairman of the party, Alhaji Kunmi Mustapha, who made this announcement during the inauguration of the campaign committee of the party held Ibadan, the state capital, said that the decision to pick Olaniyan was arrived at after consultations with the party’s stakeholders and elders.
At the event were former Minister of Sports, Professor Taoheed Adedoja, Dr. Saka Balogun, Alhaja Bosede Adedibu and Chief Sunday Ogunlade.
Others are: Dr. Kola Balogun, Dr. Nurain Adeniran, Engineer Femi Balalola and Elder Wole Oyelese and the Campaign Director General, Chief Bayo Lawal.
Olaniyan, an indigene of Igboho in Oorelope Local Government Area in Oke Ogun geopolitical zone of the state, served as General Manager of Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency (OYSROMA) during the tenure of Senator Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as Governor.
It would be recalled that the PDP deputy gubernatorial candidate, Raufu Olaniyan was among the gubernatorial candidate if the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) before he later joined the PDP.
Makinde, while speaking, promised to incorporate the people living with disabilities, the aged and the vulnerable groups in his government, through various polices that will enhance their standard of living.
Former Minister of State for Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mrs. Jumoke Akinjide said that the people of the state had tested both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), and have seen that the party was better than the APC.
