Oko, the ancient headquarters of Surulere Local Government Area of Oyo State, came alive on Sunday as sons and daughters of the community gathered to witness the commissioning of two solar-powered boreholes and over 100 solar-powered street lights facilitated by Omo-oba Adedamola Olaniyan of the Oranmiyan Dynasty.
The projects, executed as part of Omo-oba Olaniyan’s commitment to community development, attracted traditional rulers, community leaders, youths, political stakeholders and residents from within and outside the town.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Omo-oba Olaniyan said the projects were motivated by his desire to improve the living conditions of his people, stressing that they were not driven by any immediate political ambition.
He said, “Today is about giving back to the community that raised me. I did not embark on these projects because I am contesting for any political office. My greatest desire is to see my hometown develop and our people enjoy basic amenities. The future belongs to God, but for now, my focus is service to humanity and the progress of our community.”
While expressing appreciation to residents for their support, Omo-oba Olaniyan urged the people of Oyo Central Senatorial District to unite behind the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, “The governorship ticket of Senator Sarafadeen Alli and his running mate, Adesoji Adedeji (Iba-Agba), remains the best option to guarantee sustained progress and development in Oyo State. I also appeal to our people in the Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere Federal Constituency to support Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Bunvic), whose wealth of legislative experience makes him the best choice to represent the constituency. This is simply a choice of experience over inexperience.”
Representing Hon. Segun Odebunmi (Bunvic) at the event, Prince Adesina Adedokun Aremo-Oranmiyan of Okoland commended Omo-oba Olaniyan for his selfless commitment to the development of the community.
He described the projects as practical demonstrations of genuine leadership, noting that rather than making promises, Omo-oba Olaniyan had chosen to invest in projects that would directly improve the lives of the people.
“These projects will have a lasting impact on residents by providing access to clean water, improving security through enhanced street lighting and promoting socio-economic development. He deserves the appreciation and support of the entire community,” Prince Adedokun said.
He added that the interventions aligned with the objectives of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda and urged residents to support APC candidates in the 2027 elections to sustain the momentum of development.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a large crowd of community members, political associates and well-wishers.
Among the dignitaries in attendance were Prince Adepoju Amos Akinade, Mr. Moses Olushadow, the National General Secretary of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Comrade Olayinka Tiamiyu, and several other notable personalities.
Residents described the projects as timely interventions, saying they would improve access to potable water, enhance security through adequate street lighting and contribute significantly to the overall development of the ancient town of Oko.
