[spacing size=””A member of the House of Representatives, Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, has called on governorship aspirants in Oyo State to embrace issue-based politics, warning against distractions and mudslinging ahead of the 2027 elections.
Olajide, who represents Ibadan NorthWest/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency and is a frontline governorship aspirant, made the call following the postponement of the Oyo South Senatorial District Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting with Governor Seyi Makinde.
The postponement, which occurred on Monday, reportedly triggered speculation and unverified claims on social and online media platforms regarding the lawmaker’s political moves.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, Olajide cautioned against the spread of false narratives, describing such tendencies as harmful to democratic values and the developmental aspirations of the state.
He urged political actors to shift focus from personality-driven politics to governance, performance and policy-driven campaigns capable of convincing the electorate.
“Moments such as this demand maturity, restraint and a deliberate shift from personality-based politics to a focus on governance, performance and the future of Oyo State,” he said.
Olajide noted that political transition periods often come with heightened speculation and orchestrated narratives, but stressed the need for stakeholders to prioritise constructive engagement.
He emphasised that the real task before the people of Oyo State is to consolidate and expand the gains recorded under the current administration, particularly in infrastructure, human capital development and institutional reforms.
The lawmaker also called on party faithful and residents to align with the vision of Governor Makinde, whom he credited with redefining governance in the state through deliberate policies.
Reaffirming his ambition, Olajide said his governorship aspiration would be pursued through lawful and democratic means, while maintaining commitment to his legislative duties.
“Our ambition is anchored on service, not noise,” he added.
He further urged stakeholders to promote ideas and programmes that would advance the state rather than amplify divisive narratives, stressing that the quality of political engagement would shape Oyo State’s future.
“As a people, we must decide whether to be consumed by distractions or to stay focused on maintaining the peace, progress and prosperity of Oyo State,” the statement added.
