Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has declared that he will not defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), but will continue to support the administration of Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji in the interest of Ekiti State.
Fayose made this known during the flag-off of Governor Oyebanji’s re-election campaign, where he emphasized the need to prioritize the development of the state above partisan politics.
According to him, while he remains a committed PDP member, his primary allegiance is to Ekiti State, stressing that he must maintain a “home base” regardless of political affiliation.
“I am a member of PDP, I will not join APC, but first and foremost, I am an Ekiti man who must have a home base irrespective of political party,” he said.
The former governor added that he would not be part of individuals who seek to undermine governance for political gains, noting that his support for Oyebanji is based on continuity and stability.
Fayose stated that over the past two and a half years, he has consistently aligned with the “Ekiti Agenda,” which he said is being driven under Oyebanji’s leadership.
“We will not join the league of those who want to destroy just to make a point. In the last two and a half years, I have stood by the Ekiti
Agenda under Governor Oyebanji,” he said.
He further remarked that although he is expected to play the role of opposition as a PDP chieftain, such opposition would only come after the forthcoming election.
“In this state, I am supposed to be in opposition, but that opposition will start after his election. For now, all of us, including former governors, are for Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji,” Fayose added.
The statement signals a rare show of bipartisan support in Ekiti State politics ahead of the governorship election, with Fayose throwing his weight behind the incumbent governor despite party differences.
