Ibadan-based legal icon and philanthropist, Chief Adeniyi Akintola, has donated ₦50 million to the Nigerian Baptist Convention for the commencement of a Baptist Hospital Complex in Omi-Adio, Ibadan, Oyo State.
Akintola, who is the Bamofin of Ibadanland and Asiwaju of Ido, made the donation during the foundation-laying ceremony of the hospital project held recently in ibadan.
Speaking at the event, the Senior Advocate of Nigeria reflected on God’s faithfulness in his life, stating that he had been divinely favoured and blessed over the years.
He urged the leadership of the Nigerian Baptist Convention to fast-track the completion of the hospital complex, assuring them that more financial support would be forthcoming if the project progresses steadily.
“This is a project that must not be abandoned. If the work moves fast, more donations will come,” he said.
Akintola also appealed to the leadership of the convention to bring a permanent resolution to the lingering crisis surrounding Ajegunle Baptist Church, Agbowo, Ibadan, and reopen the church for members and worshippers.
The legal luminary noted that his latest donation was part of his longstanding commitment to the growth of the Baptist denomination and humanitarian development.
He recalled that he had earlier donated a cottage hospital worth about ₦70 million to the convention in 2010, which was commissioned by Bola Ahmed Tinubu before he became President.
In addition to the previous hospital donation, Akintola also donated the land on which the new Baptist Hospital Complex is being built, alongside the perimeter fencing of the property.
Responding, the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Revd. Dr Israel Adelani Akanji, expressed appreciation to the donor for what he described as a rare act of generosity and commitment to the work of God.
Akanji commended Akintola for allowing himself to be used for the advancement of healthcare and the growth of the church, praying that God would continue to bless and strengthen him.
The event climaxed with the formal foundation-laying ceremony of the Baptist Hospital Complex.
Top leaders of the convention, including Vice President Revd. Enyinaya, were also in attendance.
