Former Nigerian international and media personality, John Fashanu, has dismissed recent media reports concerning his health, personal life and family affairs, describing the claims as false and misleading.
In a viral video issued on Tuesday, Fashanu said reports suggesting that his health was deteriorating or that he was battling any medical condition were completely untrue.
“I want to make it absolutely clear that reports suggesting my health is deteriorating or that I suffer from any medical condition are completely false. I am in good health and doing well,” he stated.
The former football star also faulted several claims reportedly published by the Daily Mail, particularly allegations relating to a woman identified as Amal.
According to him, contrary to media reports, Amal had not been visiting him in Nigeria every weekend over the past three months. He explained that she only visited him in Nigeria for the first time a fortnight ago, during which she introduced a man she described as her husband.
Fashanu further clarified that Amal had never managed his affairs, properties or professional engagements, stressing that she had never acted as his agent at any time.
“She has not been managing my affairs, properties, or professional engagements in any capacity. Several statements published about our relationship are simply untrue,” he said.
The ex-Wimbledon striker noted that he currently has a trusted management team working closely with his wife and lawyers, especially over the last seven months.
Speaking on his personal life, Fashanu stated that he had only been married three times and is presently with his third wife, Vivian, whom he described as dearly loved.
While expressing affection for his daughter, he admitted feeling hurt over what he called inaccurate and damaging public statements.
“While I will always love my daughter, it is deeply painful and disappointing to see inaccurate and damaging statements made publicly,” he added.
Fashanu also disclosed that his legal team is reviewing the publications and considering possible legal actions over the alleged false claims.
He concluded by urging the media to exercise professionalism, fairness and due diligence when reporting sensitive matters concerning individuals.
