The management of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, on Friday, conducted a tour of the country home of the late Samuel Ladoke Akintola, the former Premier of the Western Region.
Akintola, an Ogbomoso-born politician and lawyer, served as a Minister and Premier before his untimely death in the first coup plot in Nigeria on January 15, 1966.
The late Premier’s country home, located at Oke Ado, Akintola, is situated on a wide expanse of land and boast of Olympic-standard swimming pool, a zoological garden among other impressive features.
Recall that in 2023, the Akintola family donated the property to LAUTECH as a research center.
During the 15th convocation program of the university, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole, addressed the issue, saying, “Council at its last meeting was glad to receive a report on the decision of the family of the former Premier of the Western Region, Chief S.L. Akintola, who this university is named after, to donate for the use of the university their house at Oke-Ado, in Ogbomoso.”
Professor Omole further stated that the Council not only approved the renovation and utilization of the house by the university management but also directed that the family should be appreciated. He expressed the Council’s gratitude for the family’s generous gesture.
With this development, it is expected that the renovation of the property will commence, and the university will put the facility to use as a research center as soon as possible.
The team was led chairman governing council Professor Deji Omole, Vic Chancellor of the institution, Professor Ron Kalilu and other top management staff.
