The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Memorial Foundation, Ogbomosho, Oyo State, has announced a programme to commemorate the 60th remembrance of the late Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola, former Premier of the defunct Western Nigeria and the 13th Aare-Onakakanfo of Yorubaland.

Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola (1910-1966) was a prominent Nigerian lawyer, journalist, orator, and politician, serving as the second and last Premier of Nigeria’s Western Region, a founding father of modern Nigeria, and the 13th Aare Ona Kakanfo of the Yoruba people, tragically assassinated during Nigeria’s first military coup in January 15, 1966.

According to a statement signed by the Foundation coordinator Mr Yemi Adedokun and PRO Remi Oladoye, the remembrance ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the International Conference Centre (ICC), University of Ibadan, Ibadan.

The anniversary is part of efforts to reflect on the political ideals, leadership philosophy and enduring contributions of the late statesman to regional and national development.
