Better days are coming for the Table Tennis players in Ibadan and Oyo State in general, as a prominent businessman, Otunba Runsewe Okeowo has promised to lift the face of the game.

He gave the assurance during a chat with reporters before the
commencement of draw for the 2017 Otunba Runsewe Open Table Tennis Championship held at K’Dream Hotel and Suite and Club E3, Orita Challenge, Odo-Ona Elewe Ibadan.

Otunba Runsewe, a motor dealer, noted that his commitment towards the development of the game of table-tennis was as a result of the passion he had for it, adding that he had chose the game as his hobby since his childhood.

He disclosed that the idea behind the table-tennis tourney was
conceived by him and Mr. Tope Ajanaku who also play the game leisurely and actively purposely to ensure the promotion of the game and also to encourage the business class to embrace table-tennis as a good means on maintaining good health and to also allow people to catch their fun.

“We realized that table-tennis that is being played in the nooks and cranny of most city in the South/West, which helped the Nation win laurels in many African championship, but the case is not the same again, so something as to be done towards reviving people’s interest back in the game.

“This tournament would also allow people to catch fun and some
awareness would also be created for the game. We also want the next edition of the competition to be bigger and more glamorous than this one,” Otunba Runsewe noted.”

He however, urged parents to provide table-tennis facility at home and encourage their wards to take to the game, adding that sports does not only contribute to mental development of people but also improve their level of fitness.
