The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has urged the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja, to exercise caution during his visit to Osogbo for the commissioning of the LAMECO and Okefia flyovers.
In a statement signed by the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the APC said it holds the monarch in high regard and appealed to him not to allow his reputation and professional background as an engineer to be associated with projects the party claims have attracted concerns over their execution.
The opposition party alleged that the LAMECO and Okefia flyovers were awarded to Kimzee Global Investment and A’scorj Nigeria Limited, companies it claimed do not have established records in road and bridge construction.
According to the APC, engineers and other stakeholders raised concerns during the construction of the projects over what it described as technical and structural deficiencies, alleging that those concerns were not adequately addressed despite assessments carried out on the structures.
The council said it considered it necessary to alert the Olubadan because of its respect for his integrity and professional standing, adding that his presence at the commissioning could be interpreted as an endorsement of projects that remain subjects of public debate.
The APC also questioned the necessity of constructing the flyovers, arguing that the roads do not experience traffic volumes that justify such projects. It further alleged that the contracts were awarded at inflated costs and claimed that some standard engineering and materials tests were either inadequate or not conducted.
The council further accused the administration of Ademola Adeleke of awarding major infrastructure contracts to companies whose primary business activities, according to the party, are unrelated to construction.
It cited the Ede Airport project and some township road contracts as examples, alleging that the procurement process raises concerns about due diligence, transparency and value for public funds.
The APC called on residents of Osun State to continue demanding accountability, professionalism and strict compliance with engineering standards in the execution of public infrastructure projects, insisting that public safety should not be compromised.
The Osun State Government had not responded to the APC’s allegations as of the time of filing this report
