The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, has constituted a Central Planning Committee to coordinate activities for its forthcoming 60th anniversary (diamond jubilee) celebration.
The decision, according to a statement made available to journalists in Ibadan on Wednesday, was jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas, and the Secretary, Temidayo Adu.
The statement announced former Chairman of the council, Ambassador Wale Ojo-Lanre, as Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, which is tasked with overseeing all programmes lined up for the landmark celebration.
Other members of the committee include Mr. Sola Oladapo, Mr. Kemi Olaitan, Mr. Semiu Azeez, Mrs. Bukola Owolabi, Mrs. Olubunmi Olalere, and Mrs. Phebean Ojo.
According to the council, the formation of the committee marks the official commencement of preparations for the NUJ Oyo State Council’s diamond jubilee, describing it as a significant milestone in the history of journalism in the state.
The union expressed confidence in the capacity of the committee members, noting that they are seasoned journalists and media professionals with proven commitment to the growth of the profession and the union.
It added that the committee will soon unveil a series of programmes designed to highlight the achievements of the NUJ in Oyo State as well as honour individuals who have made notable contributions to journalism practice.
The committee is also expected to work closely with the State Working Committee to ensure a successful and memorable diamond jubilee celebration.
