Veteran Sports Journalist, Kayode Tijani is Dead

A prominent Nigerian sports journalist and analyst, Mr. Kayode Tijani has died.

He passed on Wednesday, 7 February, 2024 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) after a protracted illness.

Though there is no official family confirmations of the death of veteran journalist, one of his colleagues in the sports journalism community Colin Udoh broke the news via his X handle late Wednesday night.

Udoh wrote “Another sad news today. Our friend and colleague Kayode Tijani has passed on.”

Another colleagues hinted tha Tijani
will be buried today Thursday, 8 February, 2024 at Atan Cemetery in Lagos at 2.00pm according to Islamic rites.

Tijani was a television sports analyst as well as a magazine publisher.

His death is believed to have thrown the sports world into Mourning as many get the information about his passing late Wednesday

Another colleagues Adegbenro Adebanjo in his tribute said ‘The loss of Kay is a big loss to sports journalism in Nigeria. The Profession took him to all the continents of the world interviewing in the process those who make things happen in the world of sports – sportsmen and women , fans and administrators of the game.
He also built one of the richest and easily accessible sports archives in the world. For this he earned the well deserved sobriquet Sports Encyclopedia. ”
