Dr. Olapade Agoro, Presidential candidate of the National Action Council (NAC), on Saturday stated that the revelation by the United Nations (UN) that the Federal Government of Nigeria paid huge ransom to secure the release of Dapchi school girls has portrayed Nigeria as a nation of lairs in the comity of nations.
Agoro, who stated this in a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, maintained that the revelation has flatly put to shame, the claim of Mr. Lai Muhammed, the Minister of Information, that the girls were released with no money paid.
The NAC Presidential candidate declared that “the shocking and highly embarrassing news reeled out by nobody else than the UN must be enough to warrant a serious government coming out with an immediate rebuttal of the story if only to the nation’s seriousness of purpose handling the affairs of human beings”.
Agoro added that “it behooves that now that the whole nation of over 180 million people is conformed a nation of lairs, one would want to ask what honour is left for us among our pals within comity of nations, decent and honest people?”
He insisted that Mr. Lai Muhammed should resign as the country’s Information Minister, if the federal government is unable to come out with concrete evidence to negate the UN’s revelation.
According to the NAC Presidential candidate, the damage that the UN’s story has done to the image of Nigeria in the comity of nations, in a civilized clime would have forced the Information Minister to throw in his resignation letter.
Agoro said: “Nigeria now is dangerously and damagingly miffed in chamber of horror and terror of clear signal of leadership total failure of President Muhammodu Buhari’s tail wagging the dog.
” It becomes apt to reiterates the fact that never since inception of the nationhood of Nigeria, and not even the terrible experience of Biafra war, has it been this bad we are forced to wallow under one form of antecedence of horror, fears and tears “.
