The Tunjii Salami Foundation has provided relief materials and financial support worth nearly ₦12 million to vulnerable residents across Osun State as part of its 2026 Ramadan outreach.

The intervention, which cut across several local government areas, combined food distribution for the needy with an empowerment scheme aimed at boosting small-scale businesses.

At various distribution centres, hundreds of widows and elderly beneficiaries received staple food items including rice, beans, semovita and vegetable oil to cushion the effects of rising food prices during the festive period.

Beyond the immediate relief, the foundation also launched its 2026 Zakat Empowerment Scheme, through which 20 selected beneficiaries were given seed capital to either start new businesses or expand existing ones.

Speaking in Osogbo during the final phase of the exercise, the foundation’s Director of Communications, Maroof Olawale Salami, said the initiative was driven by the Islamic principles of compassion and social justice.

He noted that Ramadan provided an opportunity to reflect on the plight of the less privileged and to take deliberate steps toward improving their living conditions.

According to him, the nearly ₦12 million intervention underscores the foundation’s commitment to sustainable poverty alleviation, stressing that the empowerment programme was designed to help beneficiaries achieve financial independence.

Beneficiaries of the scheme expressed appreciation to the foundation, describing the support as timely and impactful amid prevailing economic challenges.

While recipients of the food items said the gesture would help sustain their households through the Eid period, those empowered with business grants pledged to utilise the funds effectively to build viable sources of income.

The foundation said the dual approach of humanitarian support and economic empowerment reflects its broader goal of fostering resilience and improving livelihoods in Osun State.
