In a devastating incident, a fatal auto crash has claimed the lives of 16 people in Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State.

The tragic event occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at the Ajao Bus Stop, opposite the Bovas filling station, along the Ojoo/Iwo Road Express.

According to the spokesman of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo Sector Command, CRC Mayowa Odewo, the accident was caused by brake failure of a trailer carrying iron materials.

The trailer lost control and collided with a bus coming from the North, which was carrying 18 passengers, mostly children, as well as a Micra and a Honda CR-V car.

“About 16 people died instantly, 17 people were injured, while two people in the Honda CR-V survived the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital,” Odewo stated.

The Oyo Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Rosemary Alo, and her team visited the scene of the accident to ensure the free flow of vehicular movement and prevent a recurrence of such a tragedy.

“Most of the deceased were Hausas, and their bodies have been released to the Seriki Hausa in Ibadan for burial,” Odewo added.

This tragic incident has left the community in a state of mourning, and the authorities have called for a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident and take necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
