Prominent Nigerians, including senior security chiefs, academics, and longtime associates, have celebrated the promotion of Dr. Babatunde Olomu to the rank of Assistant Comptroller-General (ACG) of Customs, describing him as a rare gem and pride of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Dr. Olomu, who until his new appointment served as Controller of Customs, Apapa Command, is also an accomplished academic with higher degrees across various fields.
At a dinner held in his honour in Ibadan, organized by Chief Abraham Adisa Agboola, colleagues and friends paid glowing tributes to his humility, professionalism, and decades of dedicated service.
The immediate past Controller of Oyo/Osun Area Command, Comptroller Joseph Adelaja (retd.), described him as “one of the most humble customs officers and a brilliant academic,” adding that he is highly respected within the Service for his integrity and commitment.
Similarly, Controller Wale Adenuga, who has known him for more than 30 years, noted:
“He doesn’t play with his work. He is dedicated, highly professional, and has always maintained excellence in service.”
Also speaking, Baba Olajogun recalled the ACG’s humility despite their differences in rank:
“He always calls me Egbon (elder brother), even though I am far junior to him in service. He never looks down on anyone. Give him a task at night, and by morning, he will deliver beyond expectation.”
On his part, Otunba Abayomi Bada, Olomu’s friend of 46 years and immediate past President of the Alumni Association of African Church Grammar School, Ibadan, described the promotion as a reward for perseverance, selflessness, and assiduity.
“We have been friends since September 1979. This elevation is well-deserved. He has multiplied himself in service, in knowledge, and in character,” Bada said.
The event was marked with joy and camaraderie as dignitaries praised Dr. Olomu’s contributions to the Nigeria Customs Service, describing him as a role model whose new position as ACG would further strengthen the Service.
Notable personalities in attendance included the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, retired and serving Customs officials, as well as other distinguished guests.
