President Bola Tinubu has announced a major shake-up in the leadership of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, appointing new Service Chiefs in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s national security architecture.

According to a statement issued on Friday, October 24, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), replacing General Christopher Musa.

Other new appointments include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff.

The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position.

President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing CDS, General Musa, and other former Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership,” commending their contributions to national security.

He also charged the newly appointed military leaders to “justify the confidence reposed in them” by enhancing professionalism, vigilance, and unity within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

All the appointments, the statement added, take immediate effect.
