Tegbe Vsits UCH, Pledges to Advocate Alternative Funding for Health Sector

The Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party for Oyo South, Mogaji Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe has pledged to advocate alternative funding for the health sector, especially teaching hospitals.

Tegbe made this commitment while on a campaign tour to the University College Hospital and the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan where he was received by the Chief Medical Director, Prof Jesse Otegbayo who was represented by the Chairman Medical Advisory Committee, the Director of Administration and other members of the hospital Management.

Tegbe, who addressed staff of the hospital promised to bring his vast experience to bear in resolving some conundrum in the heath sector. He noted the need to urgently address the working condition and welfare package for health workers to stem them the JAPA syndrome where skilled workers are relocating to other countries in search of better life.

Tegbe, who noted that good policies are key the a nation’s development, promised to promote legislation to back endowment and other alternative funding for the healthcare sector, where the poor, young children and elders have access to free medical services.

While addressing undergraduate and postgraduate medical students from the College of Medicine and other medical institutions in UCH, Tegbe noted the need to address the inverted health pyramid by strengthening the Primary Health Care sub-sector to take pressure of secondary and tertiary health facilities. He also pledged to advocate for dedicated funds towards medical research.

The staff and students were elated to meet the Senatorial candidate who they described as an Omoluabi. They thanked him for the support to the institution and her unions over time. They pledged to mobilize support towards for his election as Senator
