Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State on Wednesday abolished the payment of N1000 by Primary and Secondary school students in the state .
He stated this as part of his inaugural speech, shortly after he was sworn-in as the state governor at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan.
According to the governor, “we are throwing open the gates of our schools for our children. We are determined to take them off the streets. When you open the gates of schools , your are opening opportunities for everybody to thrive”.
The new governor promised to also look into the problems bedeviling the smooth running of the Ladoke Akintola University of Ogbomosho, asserting that his major target would be the sole ownership of the institution.
He also took a swipe at the last administration led by Senator Abiola Ajimobi over what he described as the illegal plundering of the state resources by very few people in privileged positions.
Governor Makinde also formally declared open, the flyover linking the Government House and the State Secretariat, which had was made the exclusive use of former governor Ajimobi and his wife in the last eight years.
Makinde lamented the unfavourable business environment in the state under the last administration, disclosing that the state ranked 34th out of 36 as one of the states of the federation that are not investment friendly. Such according to the governor, “would no longer be tolerated. We would ensure that, through our deliberate policies the state, becomes the final destination for investors. ”
