Maharaj Ji, in a statement reacting to reported comments attributed to Oyedepo concerning Nigerians who support the All Progressives Congress (APC), described the remarks as inappropriate and urged religious leaders to avoid statements capable of deepening political divisions in the country.

He argued that religious leaders should concentrate more on promoting peace, moral values and the welfare of citizens rather than becoming deeply involved in partisan political contests.

According to him, religious institutions and their leaders have considerable influence over millions of Nigerians and should therefore use that influence to encourage unity, responsible citizenship and peaceful coexistence.

Maharaj Ji also criticised what he described as excessive dependence on organised religion, arguing that spiritual leaders should help their followers develop a deeper personal understanding of God rather than encouraging dependence on religious personalities.

He further questioned the role of some religious leaders during major national challenges, including insecurity, political crises, economic hardship and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The spiritual leader said he believed that spiritual authorities should complement government efforts by supporting vulnerable Nigerians, creating opportunities and contributing to the development of communities.

While criticising some clerics, Maharaj Ji also acknowledged what he described as positive steps taken by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He cited the Federal Government’s tax reforms, the proposed state police framework, infrastructure projects, student financing through NELFUND, livestock development initiatives and efforts to strengthen internally generated revenue as areas deserving attention.

He also commended the administration’s efforts to address insecurity and improve economic integration through major road and infrastructure projects.

Maharaj Ji maintained that political disagreements should not be allowed to undermine national unity, urging Nigerians across religious and political divides to engage one another with respect.

He particularly appealed to Oyedepo and other influential clerics to moderate their language during the build-up to the 2027 general elections, stressing that religious leaders have a responsibility to promote peace and avoid rhetoric that could be interpreted as partisan.

He said Nigeria needs cooperation among its political, religious, traditional and community leaders to overcome its challenges.

Maharaj Ji concluded by urging Nigerians to place the unity, peace and development of the country above personal, religious or political interests.

“My Divine Love and Blessings. Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Long Live President Tinubu. Long Live One Love Family,” he stated.
