Prominent oil and gas businessman and Chief Executive Officer of Gastab Group of Companies (Gastab Petroleum), Alhaji Saheed Adigun Omogbolahan, has expressed strong optimism that the emergence of Comrade Salimon Oladiti as President of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers) will further strengthen industrial harmony within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
Oladiti, a former National Trustee of the union, was elected during the union’s 6th Quadrennial Delegates Conference held in Lagos, succeeding Comrade Williams Akporeha, who completed his eight-year tenure. Comrade Akin Oladejo was also elected as Deputy President.
Reacting to the development, Oba Mobil who is also the Chief Security Officer to the newly elected president described Oladiti’s emergence as timely and reassuring, noting that his leadership experience within the union places him in a strong position to foster unity, deepen dialogue, and sustain stability in the petroleum industry.
He further emphasized that industrial peace remains critical to the growth of the downstream oil and gas sector, adding that Oladiti’s leadership is expected to enhance cooperation between workers, employers, and regulatory institutions.
Beyond the official reaction, Oba Mobil’s confidence in Oladiti is also deeply personal. He is widely known to consistently acknowledge Otunba Salimon Oladiti as a key figure behind his own growth and professional advancement in the oil and gas sector. According to close associates, his loyalty to SAO remains unwavering and is described as “well over 100 percent,” reflecting a long-standing relationship built on trust, mentorship, and mutual respect.
Oba Mobil noted that such a leadership background rooted in experience and trusted relationships would further position Oladiti to strengthen industrial harmony across the sector.
Oladiti is expected to lead NUPENG for the next four years, with a mandate to consolidate reforms, protect workers’ interests, and promote stability across Nigeria’s energy value chain.
