Dr. Funmilola Sherifat Adefolalu, an associate professor in the Department of Biochemistry within the School of Life Sciences at the university was in sunday found dead in her apartment
He lifeless body with he slit throat was discovered on Sunday morning, October 29, 2023, in her residence at Gbaiko neighbourhood, Minna, the capital of Niger State.
Mrs Lydia Legbo, the Head of the Public Relations and Publications Department at FUTMinna confirmed the traggic incident
In a statement titled ‘Bereavement’issued on Monday in Minna, she conveyed that “Late Dr Mrs Funmilola, who hails from Shaki, Oyo State, commenced her service at the university as an assistant lecturer in the former Department of Biological Sciences on November 11, 2005.
Later, she transitioned to the Department of Biochemistry, where she ascended to the position of Associate Professor on October 1, 2020.”
The statement continued, “The entire university community is deeply saddened and in a state of mourning due to this tragic incident involving the passing of a vibrant and enthusiastic individual.
The university management, staff, and students express their sympathies to the deceased’s immediate family, relatives, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time and pray to God to grant them the strength to endure this significant and irreplaceable loss.”
Mrs. Legbo, an assistant registrar, further added, “We find some comfort in knowing that she led a fulfilling life dedicated to serving the university, humanity, and the nation at large.”
She concluded by expressing a prayer: “May her gentle soul rest in peace.”
Additionally, the statement assured that “At present, security operatives are handling the situation
Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated that some of her friends discovered her dead when they couldn’t reach her by phone.
Sadly, when the guests arrived at the residence, they discovered her unconscious and covered in blood, her body covered in bruises.
Two blood-stained knives that were possibly used to stab her by an unidentified individual or people were found at the scene, according to the PPRO
