Kaduna came alive with jubilation as Ranchers Bees secured the final promotion ticket to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), completing a remarkable list of four teams moving up from the Nigeria National League (NNL).
Nicknamed the Sadiq Umar Boys, Ranchers Bees join Doma United, Sporting Lagos, and Inter Lagos in earning promotion after a fiercely contested regular season.
Their path to the top flight was anything but straightforward. The Kaduna-based side suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Gombe United in a tense midweek clash. However, events elsewhere worked in their favour. In Kebbi, Kebbi United’s emphatic 3-0 victory over Jigawa Golden Stars proved decisive, handing Ranchers Bees the sole Conference D promotion slot ahead of their rivals.
Defying expectations, Ranchers Bees have now reached the NPFL in their debut NNL campaign—a feat many have attributed to strong backing and consistent support from the club’s leadership throughout the season.
This year’s promotion race also marks a significant shift in Nigerian football. For the first time, all four teams advancing to the NPFL are privately owned, signalling a new era for the domestic league structure.
Attention now turns to the NNL Super Four Tournament, where the promoted sides will battle for the overall league title. The competition is scheduled to take place from May 1 to May 8, 2026, following the official draw set for April 24 at the Marriott Hotel, Ikeja GRA, Lagos.
