The Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring equal access to government-owned facilities for all political parties, irrespective of their affiliations.
Makinde stated this while addressing concerns surrounding the proposed use of Mapo Hall, Ibadan, by the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its presidential campaign.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, the governor maintained that public assets belong to the people of Oyo State and must be managed transparently, fairly and without partisan considerations.
He stressed that no political party should be denied access to public facilities if it meets the established requirements for their use.
According to him, democracy thrives when all political stakeholders are provided with equal opportunities to engage the electorate within the framework of the law.
The governor explained that access to government-owned facilities is regulated by established procedures and guidelines designed to ensure proper use, maintenance and public order.
He added that any political party or organisation that fulfils the stipulated conditions should not be subjected to discrimination or unjust restrictions.
Makinde also urged political actors to conduct their activities peacefully and responsibly, while calling on relevant authorities to ensure that applications for the use of public facilities are handled professionally, fairly and without bias.
He reiterated that his administration remains committed to promoting political tolerance, protecting democratic freedoms and creating an enabling environment for all legitimate political interests to operate in accordance with the law.
The statement was signed by Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor of Oyo State, on October 27, 2026.
