The 1997 Pioneer Set of the School of Science, Ogbomoso under the auspices of The Alumni Oyo State School of Science Ogbomoso has donated 620 academic textbooks to the School’s library to help deepen access to academic materials and encourage a culture of reading among students.
The complete list of donated books include: 75 copies of Essential English, 50 New General Mathematics SS1, 50 New General Mathematics SS2, 50 New General Mathematics SS3, 75 New School Chemistry, 75 Essential Biology, 75 Essential Physics, 50 Essential Geography, 50 Essential Economics, 50 Essential Agricultural Science and 20 Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary 9th Edition (with 20 DVDs) at an estimated value of N700,000.
The Principal of the School of Science Ogbomoso, Mr. Ajala Magbagbeola thanked the Pioneer Set and said: “This is a good and timely gesture from the 1997 set. We recently completed the renovation of our library and our students will once again have unhindered access to an efficient library that will help them in the pursuit of academic excellence. The Pioneer Set has set the pace, I urge them to continue to do more for the school that helped shaped them. I use this opportunity to call on other sets to emulate this remarkable display of responsibility.”
The event which was held at the Principal’s Office, was graced by His Royal Majesty, Oba Samuel Babatunde Oyebamiji Amao II, JP. In his remark, His Majesty commended the effort: “By your actions today, you have shown that you are not only adults, but also nation builders. My beloved children, please keep it up. I have no doubts that these books would be well utilized and meticulously maintained. On behalf of the Ogbomoso Community and the entire Aale of Okelerin Royal Dynasty, I want to thank you and I urge you to sustain the platform you have created, for diversity of privileges and streams of opportunities
The Pioneer Principal of the School, Chief Oluyole Ajekigbe (JP), in a congratulatory message, praised the efforts of the 1997 set: “I am very happy to hear of the efforts of the Pioneer Set. God in His infinite wisdom and mercy will continue to bless you all.”
A Trustee of The Alumni Oyo State School of Science Ogbomoso and a member of the 1997 Pioneer Set, Dr. Abiodun Afolabi concluded: “The gesture is part of the development objectives of our Alumni. We intend to add value to the school and future alumni while deepening current and future engagements. In spite of the infrastructural and other challenges facing the school, students must focus on their academic goals. We want them to have access to quality books that would increase their success rates. And we expect that when they graduate, they will continue the culture of ‘giving back’ to the school and to society at large.”
Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries, the Head Prefect of the School, Special gift Olatunji thanked the 1997 set and said the donation will help improve the level of academic excellence in the school as many more students would have access to textbooks which they did not have in the past.
The 1997 Pioneer Set recently championed an effort that got The Alumni Oyo State School of Science Ogbomoso legally registered. The 1997 Set is also investing in bringing together, all other alumni sets of the School under a formidable and unified Alumni body for better cohesion, more coordination and effective discharge of duty to the school and society at large
