PDP BoT, Turaki-Led INWC Visit Makinde Over Oriire Abductions

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including members of its Board of Trustees (BoT) and the Interim National Working Committee (INWC), on Monday visited Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to sympathise with the state government and residents over the recent abduction of teachers and pupils in Yawota and Esinele in Oriire.Local Government Area of the state

The delegation, led by BoT Chairman, Adolphus Wabara, and INWC Chairman, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, also condoled with the governor and the people of the state over the killing of one of the abducted teachers.

The closed-door meeting was held at the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Turaki said the delegation came to encourage and reassure the governor and residents of the state during the difficult period.

He commended Governor Makinde for his efforts and commitment towards securing lives and property in the state, while condemning banditry and attacks on innocent citizens.

According to him, the PDP remains concerned about insecurity in the country and supports efforts aimed at improving safety across the states.

“The Interim National Working Committee and the Board of Trustees are here to commiserate with His Excellency, the government and people of Oyo State over the unfortunate incident that took place in Oriire Local Government recently,” he said.

Turaki noted that despite the resources being invested by the Oyo State Government in security, incidents such as the Oriire abduction remained troubling, particularly as the country approaches another election season.

He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and security-conscious, stressing the need for citizens to promptly alert authorities to suspicious activities within their communities.

The PDP chieftain also called for an overhaul of Nigeria’s security architecture, arguing that governors, as Chief Security Officers of their states, should have direct control over security agencies operating within their jurisdictions.

He said the current arrangement, where state security decisions require approval from authorities in Abuja, often delays urgent responses during emergencies.

Turaki maintained that granting governors operational control over security apparatus in their states could help curb insecurity and prevent future incidents.
