Residents of Oyo town have commended Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for the ongoing construction and reconstruction of major roads within Oyo East Local Government Area, while appealing to the state government to extend the intervention to inner roads across the town.
The residents also praised former Senator Monsurat Sunmonu for her efforts and influence in facilitating key infrastructural projects in Oyo town.
The commendation followed an inspection of several ongoing road projects in the area, including the reconstruction of Mobolaje/Olugbon Road, the construction of Oba Adeyemi Road, and the construction of Kosobo Road.
The projects form part of the state government’s broader infrastructure development drive aimed at improving connectivity, easing transportation, and boosting economic activities within the ancient town.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Hon. Oluokun Peter Olusola, described the projects as clear evidence of Governor Makinde’s commitment to grassroots development and inclusive governance.
According to him, the road projects will significantly ease movement, reduce travel time, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents and road users.
Some residents, who expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work, noted that the roads have already begun to positively impact daily activities and commercial operations in the affected communities.
However, they appealed to the governor to consider the total rehabilitation of inner roads across Oyo town, many of which, they said, have deteriorated over the years and become difficult to navigate, especially during the rainy season.
Governor Makinde has continued to roll out massive road infrastructure interventions across Oyo State, cutting across both urban and rural areas, as part of his administration’s drive to promote sustainable development and economic growth.
