300-Level OAU Medical Student Dies in His Sleep

A 300-level medical student of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Timilehin Adetoye Toromade, has died in his sleep.

Timilehin, an 18-year-old Part Three student in the College of Health Sciences, reportedly passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

The sad development was confirmed by the management of the university through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abiodun Olarewaju, who stated that the student was discovered lifeless in his room.

According to preliminary accounts, a roommate disclosed that Timilehin was active around 2:00 a.m., noting that he had opened the door for another student shortly before going to bed.

Reacting to the incident, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a tragedy that has left the university community devastated.

Professor Bamire noted that the late student was diligent and committed to the medical profession, adding that his untimely death has created a painful void in the College of Health Sciences.

The university management disclosed that it is collaborating with relevant authorities to determine the cause of death through standard medical procedures.

OAU also assured that counseling and emotional support are being provided for affected students and staff, while urging members of the university community to remain calm and united during the period of mourning.

The institution extended its condolences to the bereaved family and offered prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of the deceased.
