The two surveillance aircraft acquired by the Oyo State Government have arrived in Ibadan, marking a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to strengthen security through enhanced aerial surveillance and intelligence gathering.
The development fulfills the state government’s earlier assurance that the aircraft would be delivered before the end of July.
The Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying the arrival of the aircraft represents another major step in boosting the operational capacity of security agencies across Oyo State.
According to him, the Oyo State Government had announced the acquisition of the two surveillance aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of a comprehensive strategy to enhance security and improve the ability of security agencies to tackle emerging threats.
Oyelade recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had, on July 18, 2026, confirmed that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final delivery to the state.
He noted that the government had, about a week ago, assured residents that the aircraft would arrive in Oyo State before the end of July, adding that Tuesday’s arrival fulfilled that commitment.
The Commissioner explained that the surveillance aircraft would support security agencies, including the Oyo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun Corps, and other relevant security formations, by improving intelligence gathering, monitoring criminal activities, and enhancing rapid response to security challenges across the state.
He added that Governor Makinde was personally on hand at the airport to receive the two aircraft, underscoring the administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property through the deployment of modern security technology.
The arrival of the aircraft is expected to significantly strengthen ongoing security operations and reinforce the state’s multi-layered approach to combating crime across Oyo State.
