The Ooni, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, made the call on Thursday while receiving the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, and members of the Commission’s management team during a courtesy visit to the Ooni’s Palace in Ile-Ife.

Speaking during the visit, the revered monarch acknowledged the prevailing political tension in Osun State but expressed optimism that INEC, under Prof. Amupitan’s leadership, would conduct a credible and peaceful election.

“We want the election to be peaceful. We believe you will do a professional job. Our appeal is that INEC should continue to do what is right, fair and just because our collective interest is the well-being of the people,” the Ooni said.

He urged all eligible voters in the state to participate peacefully in the governorship election by turning out to cast their votes, stressing that peaceful elections remain essential to the state’s stability and democratic development.

The monarch also assured the Commission of the continued support of traditional institutions in promoting peace before, during and after the election.

As a mark of honour and appreciation, the Ooni presented an artwork to Prof. Amupitan on behalf of the Commission, symbolising the enduring partnership between Nigeria’s traditional institutions and the nation’s electoral body.
