Oyo Police Assure Residents of Peaceful Ibadan North Bye-Election

The Oyo State Police Command says it is fully prepared to ensure a credible, secure, and peaceful bye-election in Ibadan North Federal Constituency scheduled for Saturday, August 16, 2025.

In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Osifeso Adewale, the Command said it had held consultations with security stakeholders and facilitated the signing of a peace accord by political aspirants, pledging to avoid violence before, during, and after the polls.

Key measures announced include the deployment of only recognized security agencies at polling units, strict enforcement of electoral laws, prohibition of campaigning or displaying political symbols at polling stations, and a ban on alcohol sales near voting areas.

The Command also barred uniformed personnel from escorting candidates to polling units and warned against voter inducement or possession of weapons.

A restriction of movement will be in place from midnight to 5 p.m. on election day in Ibadan North, Ibadan North East, Ibadan South West, and adjoining areas. Strategic checkpoints will be mounted at locations including Agbarigbo-Jembewon Road, Adamasingba-Danax Intersection, Bere-Oje Road, Idi-Ape Junction, Ojoo Road, Ajibode Junction, Ihokodo-Apete Road, and Eleyele-Sango Road.

The police promised robust security operations, including patrols, stop-and-search, and intelligence-driven raids, and urged parents and community leaders to caution youths against election violence.
