Oyo LG Service Commission Begins Staff Audit, Warns Against Indiscipline

Chairman local government service commission Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole inspecting documents of some members of staff

The Oyo State Local Government Service Commission on Monday commenced a comprehensive staff audit across council areas in the state.

Leading the exercise, Chairman of the Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Akinwole, alongside other commissioners Including Hon Nike Arewa,  Hon Yusuf Alli and top management staff of the commission cautioned council workers against gross acts of indiscipline.

The first stop of the tour was Afijio Local Government, where Akinwole explained that the exercise was aimed at engaging with staff and improving their welfare in line with Governor Seyi Makinde’s vision for the state’s public service.

During the session, Akinwole promised to look into the plight of long-serving ad-hoc staff in the next batch of recruitment exercises. He noted that the Commission would carry out a general posting to ensure fair consideration for all categories of workers, including those on ad-hoc appointments.

He urged council staff to be punctual at their duty posts, stressing that discipline and dedication are essential for effective service delivery.

Also speaking, the Commission’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Taiwo Adewale, emphasised that the audit was not a witch-hunt but a measure to ensure orderliness and transparency within the local government system.

“Please don’t cover up for anyone. Let every worker be accountable. Anyone working elsewhere while collecting two salaries or engaging in unethical practices will be identified,” Adewale warned.

During the interactive segment, staff raised concerns over the absorption of ad-hoc staff into the permanent workforce, intra-council postings, and payments for seminar packages and workshop allowances.

The audit exercise will continue in other council areas of Oyo State in the coming days.
