Oyo invests ₦850m on sugar plant, ₦500m on Abiola Ajimobi Technical University

In its bid to further secure the State, the Executive council of Oyo State today increased the number of vehicles for Operation Burst to 60.

This is as a result of the procurement of 40 extra security vehicles for the agency.

Addressing the media after the Executive Council Meeting, the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade, said that other security arms like the Army, the Police, Civil Defence among others, were also given additional vehicles.

The Commissioner revealed that already, Oyo State Amotekun has the largest number of Security vehicles with 150 for its operations, the largest number of personnel of about 2,000 and the best paid in Southwest Nigeria.

Prince Oyelade further revealed that the State Executive Council also approved ₦850million as investment in the Oyo Sugarcane Processors Limited, Iseyin through the State owned Pacesetter Holdings Limited.

The sugar plant currently valued at ₦4.9billion is at 90 percent completion.

The Commissioner said that by investing in the project, the State’s economy will be stimulated with the injection of 3,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.

The Sugar plant will be completed next year.

Also during the media briefing, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Saliu Adelabu, said the State Executive Council has approved half a billion naira as capital grant for Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.

Prof. Adelabu said the ₦500million grant would aid the accreditation of the Institution’s new and old programmes for the 2024/2025 academic session by the National Universities Commission.

The Commissioner for Education further disclosed that the State Government has approved over ₦900million as counterpart fund to partner with World Bank who had earlier donated ₦1billion to the State through the Better Education Service Delivery For All, BESDA.

According to Prof. Adelabu, the funding aiming to boost education development in the State would be used to eradicate out-of-school children, upgrade infrastructures and renovation of School structures across the State.
