The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo state, Engr Seyi Makinde has congratulated the state government for admitting failure in its primary health care scheme.

In a statement from his campaign organisation and signed by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the rare admission by the state Commissioner for health during the week that the state records the highest number of infant deaths in the whole of Nigeria is a fortuitous own goal that comes from the collective guilty conscience of a failed regime.

“The commissioner confessed publicly that over 42 children below one month die out of every 1000 children born  in Oyo state. What the Commissioner did not reveal, according to the press statement, is that Oyo state had stopped providing drugs, employment and training of personnel, purchase of needed equipment and provision of funds to run hospitals  in spite of false claims  of huge budgeting for the health sector.

“Makinde said that it is in realisation of this that he cried out yesterday on the wicked plans of this government to hand over the Ring road hospital, Adeoyo to a business consortium who will serve only the rich.

It will be recalled that Makinde exposed the plan of government to sever control of the largest state hospital in the old western region to a consortium where one of the leaders of the ruling party has interest.

Makinde said that the plan, which is one of the immediate priorities of the APC if it wins the coming election, will not be allowed to manifest because it will not be in the interest of the masses
