The Oyo State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging the presence of suspected gunmen or bandits along the Ogbomoso-Iseyin axis, particularly around the Adebayo Alao-Akala Highway, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, the government clarified that the convoy sighted in the area comprised security operatives led by the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, alongside the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Abayomi Fagbenro-Bibire, during an official security visit to Yawota and Elesinle communities in company with the Inspector General of Police.
According to the statement, the visit was part of ongoing coordinated security interventions and engagements with affected communities following recent security concerns in the area.
The government assured residents that security agencies remain actively engaged in rescue efforts and operations aimed at restoring peace and stability within the affected communities.
It also urged members of the public to desist from spreading unverified information capable of causing panic, fear, or disorder.
Residents were advised to rely on verified updates from appropriate authorities and continue supporting security agencies with credible intelligence.
The statement reaffirmed the commitment of the Oyo State Government, in collaboration with security agencies, to protecting lives and property as well as sustaining peace across the state.
