Popular Ibadan-based philanthropist and Okanlomo Oodua, Chief Jubril Dotun Sanusi, has disclosed that more than 250 communities have requested his intervention in the provision of electricity and potable water.

The philanthropist, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Ilaji Sports and Resorts, Akanran, made the disclosure while hosting the newly inaugurated executives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, led by its Chairman, Comrade Akeem Abas, at the resort.

Chief Sanusi said inadequate access to basic amenities remained a major challenge facing many communities at the grassroots level.

He stated that intervention projects have so far been successfully implemented in about 200 communities, while efforts are ongoing to reach the remaining 50 communities through his personal resources and networks.

He explained that his interventions are intended to complement government efforts and reduce the hardship being experienced by residents of underserved communities.

According to a statement issued by the Secretary of the Oyo NUJ, Mr Dayo Adu, Chief Sanusi said the increasing number of requests reflects the growing level of hardship in many communities, placing greater responsibility on philanthropists.

He noted that quarterly intervention meetings are held with beneficiary communities to assess needs, monitor progress and ensure the sustainability of completed projects.

He added that government officials are invited to the commissioning of intervention projects to acquaint them with the realities on the ground and encourage prompt government response to community challenges.

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ, Oyo State Council, Comrade Akeem Abas, congratulated Chief Sanusi on his installation as the Okanlomo Oodua by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, and commended his support for the union and the journalism profession in Oyo State.
