Chief Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has been conferred with the traditional chieftaincy title of Atayese by the Oluwo of Iwoland, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi, Telu I.
The colourful ceremony took place at the Oluwo’s palace in Iwo, Osun State, where the monarch received the social media activist and content creator alongside members of his team.
As part of the traditional rites, the Oluwo adorned VeryDarkMan with elegant Yoruba traditional attire before formally presenting him with the title of Atayese of Yorubaland, in recognition of what the palace described as his courage, humanitarian interventions, and contributions to national discourse.
Speaking during the event, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi commended VeryDarkMan for using his platform to champion justice and advocate for the ordinary Nigerian.
The monarch also called on the Ratel Movement, the support group associated with VeryDarkMan, to actively participate in Nigeria’s political process, stressing that meaningful national development requires the involvement of credible and courageous young people in governance.
According to the Oluwo, the time has come for socially conscious movements to move beyond advocacy and contribute directly to shaping the country’s political future through active participation.
Responding, VeryDarkMan expressed appreciation to the Oluwo for the honour, describing the conferment as a call to greater service and responsibility.
He pledged to continue promoting justice, accountability, and initiatives that positively impact Nigerians while appreciating the royal father for the confidence reposed in him.
The conferment of the Atayese of Yorubaland title adds another milestone to VeryDarkMan’s growing public profile as one of Nigeria’s most influential social commentators and activists.
