The ÒGBÓMỌ̀ṢỌ́ PIVOTAL CLUB, Lagos, has expressed deep concern over the continued captivity of pupils and teachers abducted from Ahoro Ẹ̀sínẹ̀lẹ̀ and Yáwọ́ta communities in Oríire Local Government Area, describing the prolonged ordeal as a painful source of anxiety for families and residents of Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́land.
In a statement signed by its President, Joel Ọ̀wọ́adé, and General Secretary, Gbìtẹ́ Adégòkè, the club said the lingering uncertainty surrounding the fate of the victims has compounded the grief and trauma caused by the abduction.
The group noted that what is most troubling is the “lingering suspense occasioned by their continued hostage in the harshest condition imaginable for children of their age,” stressing that every additional day in captivity heightens fears for the safety and wellbeing of the pupils and their teachers.
The club condemned the abduction in strong terms, describing it as a dastardly act against innocent and vulnerable members of society. It said the incident has brought sorrow and despair not only to the affected families but also to the entire Ògbómọ̀ṣọ́land, Oyo State and the nation at large.
According to the statement, the continued captivity of the victims has left residents worried and emotionally distressed, especially given the young age of many of those abducted.
While commending the efforts of both the Oyo State and Federal Governments to secure the release of the captives, the club urged security agencies to intensify rescue operations to ensure their safe and immediate return.
The organisation also called for divine intervention in the rescue efforts, expressing hope that the victims would soon regain their freedom and be reunited with their families.
“We appreciate and commend the efforts of the state and Federal Governments to ensure the release of the captives. Our prayers are with them for divine intervention that will secure their immediate freedom,” the statement added.
