The ancient city of Ogbomoso, known for its rich cultural heritage and historical significance, is set to make history once again with the maiden edition of the Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival, scheduled to take place from December 19-24, 2024. This landmark event which is an initiative of the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, Soun Orumogege 111 as part of his  25 years development agenda is more than just a celebration; it is a vibrant cultural festival that aims to blend ancient traditions with modern entertainment, while fostering economic prosperity and unity among the Ogbomoso people.

A Celebration of Heritage

The Ogbomoso Cradles Carnival is poised to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the people, serving as a platform for the preservation and promotion of age-old traditions. According to the chairman planning committee Prince Williams Adeleye, the festival will feature a variety of traditional performances, from colorful masquerade parades to indigenous dances that have been passed down through generations. “These performances will offer visitors a rare glimpse into the cultural tapestry of Ogbomoso, highlighting the deep-rooted values, customs, and practices that define the people.”

Central to the festival will be the display of traditional cuisine arts and crafts, with local artisans presenting their works—such as intricate beadwork, carved wooden sculptures, handwoven textiles, and pottery. Visitors will have the opportunity to not only appreciate the artistic craftsmanship but also learn about the cultural significance behind each piece.
