The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has announced plans to stage a nationwide protest against the worsening state of insecurity across the country.
In a press statement issued on Monday, the NLC said the decision was reached at its last National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, following growing concerns over the loss of lives, displacement, and hardship faced by Nigerians as a result of persistent insecurity.
According to the statement, the protest is scheduled to hold simultaneously on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, across the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The labour centre said the protest is aimed at demanding justice for Nigerians, particularly workers whose lives and livelihoods have been severely affected by violent crimes and insecurity. It also called on governments at all levels to live up to their constitutional responsibility of protecting lives and property.
The NLC further demanded fundamental reforms in governance to address the socio-economic injustices it identified as root causes of insecurity, as well as the exposure and prosecution of sponsors of violence across the country.
“By this protest, Nigerian workers are saying enough of excuses and rhetoric. We want to see action. We want the lives of ordinary Nigerians to count as much as those of the so-called elites,” the statement said.
The Congress disclosed that during the protest, workers would submit protest letters to heads of state institutions across the three arms and tiers of government.
Reaffirming its commitment to non-violence, the NLC said the protest would be peaceful and urged all peace-loving Nigerians to join what it described as a watershed moment to reclaim national dignity and sanity.
The statement was signed by the Acting General Secretary of the NLC, Comrade Benson Upah, and dated December 15, 2025.
