…nominate Ogunlesi, Joshua, Olajuwon, Usman, Olutoye others as Diaspora Icons.

Nigerians in the Diaspora have commended Spirit of Nigeria Radio, the online radio station conceptualised, designed and targeted at the over twenty million Nigerians living and working in the Diaspora.

The radio station, which commenced live transmission on the 1st of July 2020 with a focus on bridging the information gap between Nigeria and her citizens across the globe, has been warmly received by Nigerians in the Diaspora evidenced by their comments on Diaspora Discourse; a daily interactive programme on the station.

Diaspora Nigerians expressed delight at the coming on board of the station to bridge the authentic information gap between the country and her citizens.

Mr. Wale Olaitan of the Department of Justice and Regulation in Victoria, Australia stated that the concept of the station was a welcome development, stating that the station’s advocacy tagged “Nigerian Diaspora Votes Matter” was long overdue.

He advised the station operators to remain consistent and true to their philosophy of promoting positives about Nigeria.

Another Nigerian from Switzerland, Mr. Baba Aye commended the Spirit of Nigeria Radio initiative stressing its timeliness in this season of fake news.

Mr. Aye, who is a Health and Social Sector Officer at the Public Services International in Geneva said “the imperative of authentic information from Nigeria to the diaspora and the need for SNR to operate with integrity through accurate and up to the minute information about Nigeria to the world cannot be overemphasized”

In her own view, a British trained Nigerian lawyer, Ms. Kofo Anifowoshe, who spoke from London, advised the Nigerian media to project Nigerians who are flying the Nigerian flag high with good deeds in both the public and private sectors all over the world.

According to her, “the foreign media project Nigeria in a bad light, focusing more on the few bad eggs out of the two hundred million Nigerians which does not truly represent what Nigeria stands for”.

Meanwhile, SNR has commended the display of integrity by the Nigerian PhD student and assistant lecturer at the University of Tsukuba, Japan, Ikenna Nweke who returned a wallet of a large sum of money in Japan, declaring him a worthy ambassador of Nigeria and a bearer of the true Nigerian spirit of integrity.

The radio station emphasized that this act of honesty reinforces the fact that there are more good Nigerians than the bad ones.

In a related development, Nigerians in the Diaspora have nominated Adebayo Ogunlesi, Hakeem The Dream Olajuwon, Anthony Joshua, Kamaru Usman and Dr. Yinka Olutoye amongst others for the 60 Nigeria@60 Diaspora Icons as nominations opened at the station’s inception counting down to Nigeria’s sixtieth – anniversary celebrations.
